Software that does work, in a browser tab

A website informs. A web application has accounts, permissions, data that changes by the minute and workflows with rules: a distributor ordering against a credit limit, a clinic allocating rooms, an operations lead approving refunds.

Our web application development focuses on what makes those systems dependable: a data model that mirrors your business, access rules enforced in the API rather than just hidden in the interface, validation on server and browser, and a record of who changed what. The result is a tool your team can trust with real work, not a prototype that needs rescuing six months later.

Engineering choices that keep web apps maintainable

  • Typed end to end

TypeScript across the stack, with shared validation so each rule is defined once.

  • Tests where mistakes are costly

Automated tests on business rules, permissions and money calculations.

  • Rendering chosen per screen

Server rendering for fast views, client-side interaction for heavy editing screens.

  • Safe to deploy any day

CI pipelines, preview environments and versioned database migrations.

  • Visible in production

Structured logs, error tracking and uptime alerts, so issues surface before users report them.

Building blocks of the applications we deliver

  • Roles and permissions

Access by role, branch or customer account, checked on every API request.

  • Data-heavy tables

Server-side pagination, filters, saved views, bulk actions and CSV export.

  • Workflows and approvals

States, approvers, deadlines and email, SMS or WhatsApp notifications.

  • Live updates

WebSocket updates for dispatch boards, support queues and shared views.

  • Generated documents

Quotations and GST invoices as PDFs, with cloud file storage and previews.

  • Company sign-in

Single sign-on with Google Workspace or Microsoft Entra ID for internal tools.

  • Audit history

Every change stored with the user, the time and the previous values.

How it works

How a request moves through a web application

An example from a B2B customer portal: every step is a screen or a rule in the application, not an email or a spreadsheet.

  1. Customer portal

Step 1: Customer signs in to the portal

Each business customer has its own login and sees only its own orders, prices and invoices, because access is checked on the server for every request.

  2. Customer portal

Step 2: Raises an order or request

A guided form checks quantities, dates and required details as the customer types, so incomplete requests never reach your team.

  3. Web application

Step 3: Business rules are applied

The system checks credit limits, stock and discount caps automatically, and routes anything outside the rules to the right approver.

  4. Operations manager

Step 4: A manager approves in one click

Approvers see the request, the customer’s history and why it needs approval, then approve or reject with a note, from a desk or a phone.

  5. Finance team

Step 5: Invoice and status update go out

A GST invoice is generated as a PDF and the customer receives an email or WhatsApp update, without anyone copying details between tools.

  6. Admin dashboard

Step 6: Everything is recorded and reported

Each change is saved with who made it and when, and dashboards show volumes, pending approvals and dues as they happen.

Plain-English glossary

Web application terms, explained

Role-based access
Rules that decide what each person can see and do: a branch executive sees only their branch, while a finance head sees every branch. The server enforces these rules, so hiding a button is never the only protection.
Audit trail
A permanent record of who changed what and when, including the old value. It settles “who changed this price?” questions quickly and helps during internal or statutory audits.
Single sign-on (SSO)
Letting staff log in with their existing Google Workspace or Microsoft account instead of a separate password. When someone leaves, disabling their company account also removes their access.
Progressive web app (PWA)
A web application that can be added to a phone’s home screen and opened like an app, without an app store. Useful for staff who need quick access on the move.
Staging environment
A private copy of the application where new features are demonstrated and tested with realistic data before they reach real users, so testing never disturbs daily work.
Live updates (WebSockets)
A connection that lets a screen refresh itself the moment something changes, such as a new job on a dispatch board, without anyone pressing reload.

What a web application looks like to its users

Illustrative screens from a B2B customer portal for a steel distributor, and the operations dashboard behind it.

  • Web application operations dashboard in a web browser, with key figures and a chart
Operations dashboard. Managers see live numbers instead of waiting for a month-end spreadsheet: open requests, pending approvals, invoicing and dues.
  • Web application operations dashboard approvals queue table in a web browser, with 4 rows and status labels
Operations dashboard. Requests that break a rule wait in one queue with the reason shown, so approvers can filter, decide in bulk and export the list.
  • Web application customer portal new purchase request in a web browser, with input fields and an action button
Customer portal. Customers raise requests through a form that checks each field as they type, so your team stops chasing missing details over email.
  • Web application customer portal on a phone my requests on a phone, with 3 entries
Customer portal on a phone. The same portal works on a phone, so customers can check status and download invoices without calling your office.

Cost drivers

Cost drivers for a web application

  1. Permission depth

Branch-level visibility and field-level restrictions take careful design and testing.

  2. Workflow complexity

Every state, approval and exception path is logic to build, test and explain on screen.

  3. Existing systems

Accounting, ERP, CRM or payment gateway connections add integration and error handling.

  4. Data migration

Years of spreadsheets or a legacy database need cleaning, mapping and a rehearsed import.

  5. Reporting and scale

Custom reports, high concurrency or strict uptime targets change the infrastructure and testing required.

Estimates are written from your scope, with the effort and assumptions behind each line item.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should our product be a web app, a mobile app, or both?

Web apps suit desk work such as data entry, reporting, administration and B2B ordering, and they update without app store review. Mobile apps suit frequent use on the move, camera or GPS features and push notifications. A progressive web app covers some middle ground, though iOS still limits certain PWA capabilities. Many products pair a web app for office users with a mobile app for the high-frequency role.

Can you turn our Excel and Google Sheets process into a web app?

Yes, and it is a frequent starting point. We first document what the spreadsheets really do: formulas that encode pricing, colour codes that signal status, tabs that different teams share. These become validated fields, workflow states and permissions. Historical data is cleaned and imported, an Excel export usually remains for analysis, and we suggest moving one team or process at a time.

Will the application slow down as our data grows?

Not if the data model and queries are designed for growth. We index the columns that filters and joins rely on, paginate on the server, move slow reports into background jobs and cache frequent reads in Redis. Before launch we load-test the heaviest screens with realistic data volumes, and in production we monitor slow queries and fix them before users notice.

How do you secure a web application that stores customer data?

Permissions are enforced on the server, input is validated, queries are parameterised, passwords are hashed with a modern algorithm and data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Sessions use secure cookies with CSRF protection, and sensitive actions are logged. For personal data we design with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 in mind: minimal collection, recorded consent and support for deletion requests.
