Razorpay integration

Lets customers in India pay by UPI, cards, netbanking or wallets, and handles subscriptions, refunds and payouts to sellers or partners.

How we use it

Razorpay is a common gateway choice for products selling in India, covering checkout, recurring payments, marketplace split settlements and payouts through one set of APIs.

What Razorpay is, and how we build payments around how India pays

Razorpay is an Indian payment gateway: the service that sits between your app and the customer's bank or UPI app, collects the money and settles it into your account. It also handles recurring payments, refunds and payouts to sellers or partners. For you, that means customers can pay the way they prefer, and your team sees every payment, refund and settlement in one place.

Indian customers expect UPI first, with cards, netbanking, EMI and wallets as alternatives. Razorpay covers these through one integration, with SDKs for web, Android, iOS, Flutter and React Native.

UPI, RuPay, cards, EMI and wallets through one integration.

  • Smooth mobile checkout

Native and cross-platform SDKs open UPI apps directly from your app.

  • Recurring payments

Mandate flows designed around RBI rules support subscriptions and instalments.

  • One place for the money trail

Settlements, disputes and refunds are visible in one dashboard and its reports.

When we would not recommend Razorpay

  • Customers mostly abroad: for international cards and multi-currency SaaS billing, Stripe or a similar global gateway usually fits better.
  • When another gateway suits your payment mix: fees vary by payment method and plan, so we compare alternatives such as Cashfree, PayU or PhonePe's gateway when cost or features matter.
  • A plug-in checkout with no server checks: we do not recommend any gateway, Razorpay included, without server-side signature checks, handling of late webhooks for UPI payments that complete after the customer leaves the app, refunds and settlement reconciliation. Those details decide whether payments run smoothly.

Plain-English glossary

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why do some UPI payments show as pending after the customer has paid?

UPI payments are confirmed asynchronously, so the customer's app may show success before the gateway notifies your server, or the customer may close the app before returning. We never mark an order as paid from the browser alone: the server verifies the payment, listens for webhooks and checks with the gateway for payments still pending. Customers see a clear pending message until confirmation arrives.

Can Razorpay split a payment between our platform and sellers?

Yes, through Razorpay Route. A customer pays once, and the amount is transferred to linked seller or partner accounts according to rules you define, with your commission retained. Transfers can be held until delivery is confirmed and reversed for refunds. Sellers must complete onboarding with Razorpay, so we design a seller onboarding flow that collects the required details.

How does UPI AutoPay work for subscriptions?

The customer approves a mandate once in their UPI app, authorising recurring debits up to a maximum amount and frequency. Your system then creates charges on schedule through Razorpay's subscription or recurring payment APIs, and customers receive pre-debit notifications as required. Customers can pause or revoke mandates from their UPI app, so we handle those events and prompt them to renew.
