Software around your core technology

A smart-lock maker, EV charger manufacturer or sensor startup usually has strong firmware and hardware engineers. The Bluetooth pairing app, the cloud that stores telemetry and ships firmware updates, and the dashboards installers use are different disciplines.

We take on those layers against your protocols, so your core team stays on the core.

Challenges

Gaps hardware teams often hit

  1. Bluetooth on fragmented Android

Pairing behaves differently across phone makers and OS versions.

  2. Telemetry at volume

Thousands of devices reporting every few seconds need efficient ingestion.

  3. Safe firmware updates

OTA needs staged rollouts, signature checks and a halt switch.

  4. Partner access

Integrators need API keys, docs and a sandbox.

What we build for tech companies

  • Companion apps

BLE and Wi-Fi provisioning, device control and alerts.

  • Device cloud

MQTT ingestion, time-series storage and device state.

  • OTA orchestration

Rollout groups, progress tracking and automatic pauses.

  • Fleet dashboards

Device views, alerts and roles for enterprise buyers.

  • Developer portal

API reference, keys and usage metrics.

How it works

How a connected device goes from box to cloud

Using a smart lock or an EV charger as the example, this is where each layer of software takes over.

  1. Companion app

Step 1: Customer pairs the device

The app finds the device over Bluetooth Low Energy, checks it is genuine and passes it the Wi-Fi details for the home or site.

  2. Device cloud

Step 2: Device registers with the cloud

The device connects with its own certificate over MQTT and appears in the customer's account and in your fleet dashboard.

  3. Device cloud

    Step 3: Telemetry streams in

Battery level, temperature, charging sessions or lock events arrive every few seconds and are stored efficiently for charts and alerts.

  4. App and fleet dashboard

Step 4: Alerts and remote commands

Owners get alerts, such as a failed charge, and can send commands back; installers see all of a site's devices in their dashboard.

  5. OTA console

Step 5: Firmware update rolls out

A signed firmware build goes to internal devices first, then a small share of customers, then everyone, pausing automatically if failures rise.

  6. Developer portal

Step 6: Partners build on your API

Integrators get API keys, documentation and a sandbox to connect your devices to their own platforms, without your engineers on every call.

Plain-English glossary

Connected-product terms, in plain English

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy)
The low-power version of Bluetooth most smart devices use to talk to a nearby phone. The app uses it to pair and set up the device; behaviour varies between Android phone makers, so testing on real handsets matters.
GATT profile
The document listing what a Bluetooth device offers and how to read or write each value, such as battery level or an unlock command. With it, the app team can build against your device without guesswork.
MQTT
A lightweight messaging protocol designed for devices with small batteries and unreliable networks. Devices send readings and receive commands through it, using far less data than ordinary web requests.
OTA update
Over-the-air update: installing new firmware on devices remotely through the internet, with no technician visit. Staged rollouts and signature checks stop a faulty build from reaching every device at once.
Telemetry
The stream of readings a device reports about itself, such as temperature, battery or error codes. Stored and charted well, it points to failing units before customers call.

The companion app, fleet dashboard and OTA console

  • Technology company software companion app profile on a phone, with account details
Companion app. Owners see lock status, battery life and recent activity, and can lock or unlock remotely; the same app handles first-time Bluetooth pairing.
  • Technology company software fleet dashboard route map in a web browser, with stops and live positions
Fleet dashboard. Installers and site owners see every device on a map with its live state, and faults raise alerts before users start complaining.
  • Technology company software OTA console order tracking in a web browser, with live status steps
OTA console. Your team releases firmware in waves and watches failure rates; the rollout pauses automatically if failures cross the threshold you set.

Cost drivers

What drives connected-product costs

  1. Protocol maturity

Documented protocols speed app work; changing firmware slows it.

  2. Test matrix

Testing across phone models and hardware revisions takes time and units.

  3. Data volume and retention

Telemetry frequency and retention drive storage design.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a Bluetooth Low Energy companion app for our device?

Yes, working from your GATT profile or protocol document and, ideally, engineering samples. We usually write the Bluetooth layer natively in Kotlin and Swift, even inside a cross-platform app, because BLE behaviour varies across phones. Testing on popular Android models, including budget phones common in India, is planned from the start.

How do you manage firmware updates over the air?

Signed firmware builds go to rollout groups: internal devices, then a small share of customers, then everyone. Devices download, verify the signature and report status; if failures cross your threshold, the rollout pauses. Your firmware team owns the bootloader and on-device rollback, and we build the orchestration and monitoring.

Which IoT protocols and cloud services do you work with?

Most connected products use MQTT for telemetry and commands, with HTTPS for provisioning and file transfers. We typically use AWS IoT Core or a self-managed broker such as EMQX or Mosquitto, depending on device count, cost and lock-in concerns. Time-series data often goes to PostgreSQL with TimescaleDB.
