Publishing at the speed of the news cycle

A newsroom's software does two jobs. For readers, pages must load quickly on mid-range phones despite ads and embeds, and stories must surface in search and Google News. For the desk, reporters file, editors approve and producers publish to web, app and social within minutes.

Regional-language publishers add Indic typography, transliteration and script-aware search.

Challenges

Pressures on digital publishers

  1. Slow pages under ad load

Ad scripts and heavy embeds hurt Core Web Vitals and search visibility.

  2. Approval bottlenecks

    Email-and-WhatsApp sign-offs slow breaking stories.

  3. Revenue beyond display ads

Subscriptions and paywalls need billing and access control.

  4. A buried archive

Years of stories sit unsearchable in an old CMS or print PDFs.

Newsroom and reader features

  • Editorial workflow

Draft, edit, legal review and scheduled publishing.

  • Fast front end

Server rendering, lazy-loaded ads and image optimisation.

  • News SEO

NewsArticle markup, news sitemaps and clean canonicals.

  • Metered paywall

Article limits and UPI AutoPay subscriptions.

  • AI desk tools

Transcripts, summaries and headline drafts, edited by journalists.

How it works

How a story moves from reporter to reader

Every step leaves a record, so the desk knows who changed what, and when.

  1. Newsroom CMS

Step 1: Reporter files the story

The reporter writes or pastes copy, adds photos and embeds, and can attach an interview recording for an AI transcript to check quotes against.

  2. Desk editor

Step 2: Editor edits and approves

The story moves to the editor's queue with tracked changes. Sensitive stories go through legal review before anyone can schedule them.

  3. Producer

Step 3: Headline and search details set

The producer finalises the headline, summary, tags and NewsArticle markup. AI can suggest options; a journalist makes the choice.

  4. Publishing platform

Step 4: Published everywhere at once

One action publishes to the website, the app and the news sitemap, and sends a push alert to readers who follow that topic.

  5. Reader's phone

Step 5: The story loads fast

Server-rendered pages load quickly on mid-range phones, and ads load after the story, so readers see the text first.

  6. Reader account

    Step 6: Regular readers subscribe

After the free-article limit, readers see subscription plans with UPI AutoPay; subscribers then read across web and app without interruption.

Plain-English glossary

Publishing terms, in plain English

Core Web Vitals
Google's measures of how fast a page shows its main content, how quickly it responds to taps and how much it jumps while loading. Better scores support search visibility and stop readers leaving before the story appears.
Metered paywall
Readers get a set number of free articles, say five a month, before being asked to subscribe. Search and social traffic keeps flowing while regular readers are turned into paying subscribers.
301 redirect
A permanent forwarding instruction from an old web address to a new one. During a CMS migration it sends readers and search engines to the new page, which helps years of archive stories keep the search visibility they have built up.
Hreflang
A tag telling search engines that the same story exists in other languages, such as Hindi and English editions. Each reader is then shown the version in their own language in search results.
Transliteration
Typing an Indian-language word in English letters, such as 'chunav' for the Hindi word for election, and having search understand it. Many readers search this way, so script-aware search finds what they mean.

Cost drivers

Media project cost drivers

  1. Content migration

Moving years of articles, images and URLs with redirects takes planning.

  2. Traffic spikes

Election nights and breaking news need caching and load testing.

  3. Monetisation stack

Ad server, paywall and subscription billing integrations add scope.

Estimates are written from your scope, with the effort and assumptions behind each line item.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you migrate our news site off WordPress without losing search traffic?

We plan migrations to protect what search engines already know. Every old URL keeps its address or gets a 301 redirect, and structured data, canonicals, author pages and sitemaps carry over. We crawl both sites before launch and watch Search Console afterwards. Some fluctuation follows any migration; careful redirects keep it small.

How do you use AI in a newsroom responsibly?

For assistive work: transcribing interviews, drafting summaries, suggesting headlines and tags, or translating a story for an editor to check. Nothing publishes without a journalist’s review, and the CMS records AI-assisted parts. We never publish AI copy unattended, since models can state wrong facts confidently. Archive search cites the source stories.

Do you support Hindi and other Indian-language publishing?

Yes. We use Unicode fonts that render conjuncts correctly, tune line heights for Devanagari, Tamil, Bengali and other scripts, and configure search per language, including transliterated queries typed in English letters. Slugs, SEO metadata and structured data are set per language, with hreflang tags where the same story exists in several languages.
