Hospitals are many businesses under one roof

A hospital runs outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, operating theatres, a lab, a pharmacy and a billing office that deals with cash patients, insurers, TPAs and government schemes. Each department often has its own system, and data moves between them on paper.

We build hospital software in modules that can replace or integrate with what you have: registration and OPD, admission and bed management, billing and claims, lab and pharmacy, and patient-facing apps. ABDM integration lets records link to a patient's ABHA, with consent.

Challenges

Common hospital system problems

  1. Disconnected departments

Lab, pharmacy and billing systems do not share patient context.

  2. Discharge delays

Final bills, summaries and insurer approvals hold up bed turnover.

  3. Claims friction

TPA pre-authorisations and claim documents are prepared manually.

  4. Patient communication

Appointments, reports and bills reach patients only by phone or in person.

Hospital modules we build

  • Bed and admission management

Live bed status by ward, transfers and discharge planning.

  • Billing and TPA claims

Package and itemised billing, pre-authorisation tracking and claim documents.

  • Lab and radiology interfaces

Orders and results linked to the LIS, analysers and PACS viewers.

  • Pharmacy and consumables

Ward indents, batch and expiry tracking, and billing to the patient account.

  • Patient app

Appointments, reports, bills and payments on the patient's phone.

  • ABDM integration

ABHA linking and consent-based record sharing within ABDM.

How it works

How a patient moves from registration to discharge

Each department works in its own module, while the patient's record and bill follow them through the hospital.

  1. Front desk

Step 1: Registration and OPD visit

The patient is registered once, optionally linked to their ABHA, and given a place in the OPD queue.

  2. Doctor

    Step 2: Doctor orders tests

Lab and radiology orders go straight to the LIS and imaging, and results come back to the same record.

  3. Admissions desk

Step 3: Admission and bed allocation

Live bed status by ward shows where the patient can go, and TPA pre-authorisation starts in parallel.

  4. Nursing and pharmacy

Step 4: Care on the ward

Ward indents, medicines and consumables are charged to the patient's account as they are used, not reconstructed at discharge.

  5. Billing office

Step 5: Discharge and final bill

The discharge summary and the package or itemised bill are prepared together, and the claim goes to the insurer with its documents.

  6. Patient app

Step 6: Reports and follow-up on the phone

Reports, bills and the follow-up appointment reach the patient without another trip to the counter.

Plain-English glossary

Hospital system terms, in plain English

OPD and IPD
The outpatient department (patients seen and sent home) and the inpatient department (admitted patients). Their workflows and billing differ, which is why hospital software treats them as separate modules.
TPA (third-party administrator)
The company that processes health insurance claims for insurers. Hospitals send it pre-authorisation requests and claim documents, so tracking both in the billing module shortens the wait at discharge.
LIS and PACS
The laboratory information system that manages test orders and results, and the picture archiving and communication system that stores scans and X-rays. Connecting both puts results next to the patient record.
ABHA
The Ayushman Bharat Health Account number a patient can create under ABDM. Linking it lets the patient share your hospital's records with other providers, with their consent.

Screens across admissions, billing and the patient app

  • Hospital software bed management bed board table in a web browser, with 5 rows and status labels
Bed management. Admissions and nursing staff see live bed status by ward, including beds waiting on discharge or cleaning, so new admissions are not held at the desk.
  • Hospital software billing and TPA desk pre-authorisations in a web browser, with 3 entries
Billing and TPA desk. The billing team tracks every pre-authorisation and claim with its documents and queries in one place, which shortens the wait at discharge.
  • Hospital software patient app my visits and reports on a phone, with 4 entries
Patient app. Patients receive reports, bills and follow-up appointments on their phone, instead of calling the hospital or collecting paper at the counter.

Cost drivers

What drives hospital software cost

  1. Modules in scope

Each department module adds workflows, roles and staff training.

  2. Legacy data and integrations

Migrating records and connecting analysers or PACS adds significant effort.

  3. Deployment model

On-premise servers, cloud hosting or hybrid setups change infrastructure and support needs.

Estimates are written from your scope, with the effort and assumptions behind each line item.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to replace our entire HMS at once?

No, and we usually advise against it. Hospitals can modernise module by module: for example, a patient app and online appointments first, then billing and claims, then inpatient workflows, while the existing HMS keeps running. Integration layers keep data consistent during the transition. A phased plan reduces risk to clinical operations and spreads cost over time.

What does ABDM integration involve for a hospital?

It lets your hospital act as a health information provider, and if needed a user, so patient records can be linked to their ABHA and shared with consent. Technically it involves registering the facility, implementing ABDM's APIs and FHIR-based record formats, testing in the ABDM sandbox and completing the required approval before going live. Timelines depend on your existing systems and data quality.

Can the system run on-premise for data control?

Yes. Some hospitals prefer servers on their own premises for control or connectivity reasons, while others choose cloud hosting in Indian regions with managed backups. We containerise the application so it can run either way. On-premise setups need a plan for backups, updates, power and hardware failures, which we document and can support under a maintenance agreement.
