Why electronics commerce needs extra structure

Electronics shoppers compare specifications, prices and offers across sites before buying, and high ticket sizes make EMI and exchange offers part of most sales. Behind the counter, each unit has an IMEI or serial number that must be recorded for warranty, returns and theft checks.

We build electronics commerce around structured product data and unit-level tracking: filterable specifications, accessory compatibility, serial capture at billing and dispatch, and offer logic that combines bank discounts, EMI and exchange values correctly.

Challenges

Selling electronics without the headaches

  1. Unstructured specifications

Specs pasted as text can't be filtered or compared, so shoppers compare elsewhere.

  2. Unit-level tracking

Returns fraud and warranty disputes follow when IMEI or serial numbers aren't captured.

  3. Stacked offers

Bank discounts, no-cost EMI and exchange bonuses interact in ways that break checkout totals.

  4. Fast price changes

Launch pricing and competitor moves need updates across stores and web together.

Electronics-specific features

  • Spec filters and comparison

Attribute-based catalogue with side-by-side product comparison.

  • IMEI and serial capture

Scan at billing and dispatch; look up by serial for returns and warranty.

  • EMI and bank offers

Card EMI, cardless EMI and bank discounts via your gateway's offer engine.

  • Exchange valuation

Question-based device valuation, deducted at checkout and verified at pickup.

  • Installation and demo booking

Slots for TV, AC and appliance installation, assigned to technicians.

  • Accessory compatibility

Chargers, cases and cables matched to the device a customer owns or is buying.

How it works

How an electronics sale is compared, tracked and installed

Every unit is tied to its IMEI or serial number from the bill to the installation visit.

  1. Website

    Step 1: Shopper compares specifications

Attribute filters and side-by-side comparison answer the questions buyers would otherwise take to another site.

  2. Checkout

Step 2: Offers are combined at checkout

Exchange value, bank discount and no-cost EMI are applied in the right order, so the total matches the GST invoice.

  3. Store or warehouse staff

Step 3: Serial captured at billing or dispatch

The IMEI or serial of the exact unit is scanned onto the invoice for warranty, returns and theft checks.

  4. Delivery executive

Step 4: Old device checked at delivery

The exchange device is inspected in an app against the customer's answers before its value is honoured.

  5. Technician

Step 5: Installation or demo booked

TV, AC and appliance installations go to technicians with the model and serial number already on the job card.

  6. Recommendations

    Step 6: Compatible accessories suggested

Chargers, cases and cables that fit the device the customer now owns are suggested, never a case for a different model.

Plain-English glossary

Electronics retail terms, in plain English

IMEI
The unique 15-digit identity number of a mobile phone. Recording it on each invoice links the exact unit to its buyer for warranty claims, returns and theft checks.
No-cost EMI
Instalments where the interest is given as a discount by you or the brand, so the customer pays only the product price spread over months. The invoice must show that discount correctly for GST.
Exchange valuation
A price for the customer's old device, worked out from answers about its model and condition and verified at pickup. It lowers the price of the new purchase and brings the old unit back to you.
Attribute-based catalogue
Specifications stored as separate fields, such as screen size, refresh rate or capacity, instead of a paragraph of text. That structure is what makes filters and side-by-side comparison possible.

Screens for shoppers and counter staff

  • Electronics software shopper website compare table in a web browser, with 3 rows and status labels
Shopper website. Shoppers filter by structured specifications and compare models side by side, with EMI and exchange offers shown next to each price.
  • Electronics software shopper app checkout on a phone
Shopper app. Checkout applies the exchange value, bank discount and EMI in the correct order, so the total the customer sees is the total on the invoice.
  • Electronics software counter billing bill on a tablet, with input fields and an action button
Counter billing. Counter staff scan the IMEI or serial onto the invoice, which later settles warranty questions and flags returns that don't match the unit sold.

Defining spec templates per category and cleaning supplier data is real upfront work.

  2. Offer engine

Combining EMI, bank offers and exchange requires careful rule design and testing.

  3. Store and web together

Serial tracking across POS and online adds integration and hardware scope.

Estimates are written from your scope, with the effort and assumptions behind each line item.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do device exchange offers work technically?

The customer answers a short set of questions about the old device, covering model, condition, screen and accessories, and the system calculates an exchange value from a price table you maintain or a valuation partner's API. That value is deducted at checkout. At delivery, the executive checks the device against the answers in an app, and adjusts or cancels the exchange if it doesn't match.

Can we offer no-cost EMI on our website?

Yes, through your payment gateway. Gateways such as Razorpay, PayU and Cashfree support card EMI and cardless EMI, and no-cost EMI is usually structured as a discount equal to the interest, funded by you or the brand. We build product-level eligibility rules, show EMI options clearly on product pages, and make sure invoices reflect the discount correctly for GST.

Can accessories be recommended automatically?

Rule-based compatibility is the reliable starting point: mapping chargers, cases and screen guards to specific models in your catalogue. Once there is enough order history, a recommendation system can learn frequently-bought-together patterns and rank suggestions. We combine both, so a customer never sees a case that doesn't fit their phone just because a model predicted a click.
