Software for vehicles people rent, share or charge

New mobility businesses — electric scooter rentals for delivery partners, self-drive car rentals, vehicle subscriptions, battery swapping and public charging networks — are asset-heavy. Each vehicle, battery or charger is capital that must be used, tracked and protected, and customers expect to unlock, pay and go from their phone.

We build platforms that connect customers, assets and operations: KYC and deposits for renters, IoT integration for vehicle and battery data, charger communication using open standards, and tools for field teams who move, repair and recover assets.

Challenges

What makes mobility businesses hard to run

  1. Asset utilisation

Vehicles and batteries sit idle in some areas while demand goes unmet in others.

  2. Renter risk

Damage, late returns and unpaid dues need KYC, deposits and evidence at pickup and return.

  3. Mixed hardware

IoT devices, batteries and chargers from different vendors speak different protocols.

  4. Constant pricing experiments

Hourly, daily, weekly and subscription plans change often as the business learns.

Mobility platform features

  • Rental and subscription booking

Plans by hour, day, week or month, with deposits, extensions and UPI AutoPay renewals.

  • Renter onboarding

Licence and identity checks through licensed providers or DigiLocker, selfie match and deposit collection.

  • Digital handovers

Guided photos, odometer and battery readings, and damage notes at every pickup and return.

  • IoT vehicle control

Remote unlock, immobilisation with safeguards and geofence alerts via telematics or BLE devices.

  • Charging and swap operations

Charger status and sessions via OCPP, swap-station stock and battery health tracking.

How it works

How an electric scooter rental works, from sign-up to return

  1. Rider app

Step 1: Renter signs up and is verified

Licence and identity are checked through a licensed provider or DigiLocker, followed by a selfie match and a deposit.

  2. Rider app

Step 2: Chooses a plan and pays

Hourly, daily, weekly or monthly plans are paid by UPI, and weekly plans can renew on AutoPay, which suits delivery partners.

  3. Field executive

Step 3: Pickup with a digital handover

Photos, odometer and battery readings are captured at pickup, so any later damage claim rests on evidence.

  4. IoT device

Step 4: Scooter unlocked from the phone

The telematics or Bluetooth unit unlocks the scooter, and a geofence alert fires if it leaves the permitted area.

  5. Swap station

Step 5: Battery swapped when low

The rider exchanges a depleted battery at a station, and the platform records battery health and station stock.

  6. Operations team

Step 6: Return, inspection and deposit

Return photos are compared with pickup records, charges are itemised and the deposit is refunded or adjusted.

Plain-English glossary

Connected-vehicle terms, in plain English

OCPP
Open Charge Point Protocol: a common language EV chargers use to talk to management software. Supporting it lets you run chargers from different manufacturers on one platform.
Bluetooth unlock
A short-range connection that lets the renter's phone unlock a vehicle standing next to it. It keeps working where mobile data is weak, such as in basement parking.
Battery management system (BMS)
The electronics inside a battery pack that report charge, temperature and health. Reading this data shows which batteries need attention before they fail on a customer.
Immobilisation
A remote command that stops a vehicle from being restarted, used when a rental is not returned. Safeguards make sure it applies only to a stationary vehicle and only by authorised staff.

The rider app, field app and operations console

  • Mobility software rider app catalogue on a phone, showing choose a plan with prices
Rider app. Renters compare hourly to monthly plans, pay by UPI and set up AutoPay for weekly renewals without visiting a store.
  • Mobility software field executive app return inspection on a phone, with input fields and an action button
Field executive app. Field staff record condition, battery level and damage with photos at every return, so deposit deductions are backed by evidence.
  • Mobility software operations console route map in a web browser, with stops and live positions
Operations console. Operators see where every vehicle is and what state it is in, so field teams can move idle scooters and respond to geofence alerts quickly.

Cost drivers

Mobility platform cost drivers

  1. Hardware ecosystem

Each IoT device, battery management system or charger model needs integration and field testing.

  2. Business model mix

Rentals, subscriptions, swaps and charging each bring separate pricing, billing and operations flows.

  3. Field operations tooling

Rebalancing, recovery and maintenance apps for field staff add a second major app.

Estimates are written from your scope, with the effort and assumptions behind each line item.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you integrate with EV chargers from different manufacturers?

For chargers that support OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol), yes: we build or integrate a central system that manages charger status, remote start and stop, sessions and tariffs across brands. Version support matters, since many chargers run OCPP 1.6 and newer ones 2.0.1, so we confirm your hardware early. Chargers without OCPP need vendor APIs, which vary in quality. Session payments can run through UPI or an in-app prepaid wallet.

How do you verify renters' driving licences?

Through licensed verification providers that check licence details against official records, or through DigiLocker, where the renter shares their licence with consent. We add a selfie match against the ID and store only what your policy requires. Consents and verification results are logged, and data is used only for the purpose the renter agreed to, in line with the DPDP Act. Repeat renters are re-verified on a schedule rather than at every booking.

Can the app immobilise a vehicle if a rental isn't returned?

If the vehicle has a telematics device that supports it, the platform can send an immobilisation command, but we build it with safeguards: only when the vehicle is stationary or crawling, only by authorised staff with a logged reason, and after warnings to the renter. Immobilising a moving vehicle is dangerous, so the rules are enforced both in software and in device configuration. Your rental terms should disclose the capability clearly.
