Who it's for

Agri businesses work with farmers who use basic Android phones, speak many languages and often lack signal. We build farmer-facing apps and back-office tools for those conditions.

Cost depends on
  • Languages supported
  • Offline workflows
  • Payment and credit flows

Software that works in the village, not just the office

Seed, fertiliser and crop protection companies sell through dealer networks; procurement companies buy produce from thousands of farmers; farmer producer organisations (FPOs) pool members' harvests and supply inputs. All of them need to reach people using basic phones, preferring their own language and with signal only near the village centre. We design for that: vernacular screens, voice and pictures, offline capture and bank payouts.

Challenges

Constraints of rural software

  1. Language and literacy

Text-heavy English apps exclude many farmers and field staff.

  2. Connectivity

Data entry in fields fails on weak or no signal.

  3. Paper procurement

Weights, grades and payments kept in registers, causing delays and disputes.

  4. Dealer blind spots

Companies can't see dealer stock or secondary sales during the season.

Agriculture features we build

  • Vernacular farmer app

Regional-language screens, voice notes and image-led navigation for low-end phones.

  • Collection-point procurement

Scale readings, quality grades and instant receipts, synced when online.

  • Dealer ordering and schemes

Season-wise schemes, credit limits and order tracking for input dealers.

  • FPO member management

Members, share capital, input purchases and produce contributions in one ledger.

  • Mandi price display

Prices from public sources such as Agmarknet alongside your buying rates.

How it works

How produce is bought at a village collection point

  1. Farmer

Step 1: Farmer arrives with produce

The farmer is found by mobile number or member ID; a first-time seller is registered with bank or UPI details so later payouts go to the right account.

  2. Collection-point staff

Step 2: Weight, moisture and grade recorded

Scale readings and quality checks go into the app, which works without signal, and the day’s buying rate is applied.

  3. Field app

    Step 3: Receipt handed over

The farmer leaves with a printed slip or an SMS in their own language showing weight, grade, rate and amount due.

  4. Field app

Step 4: Records sync when signal returns

Entries upload to head office once the phone finds a network, with checks that stop the same purchase being counted twice.

  5. Procurement manager

Step 5: Payouts approved in batches

Payments are approved in batches and sent to verified bank accounts or UPI IDs, and each farmer gets an SMS or WhatsApp confirmation.

  6. Logistics team

Step 6: Lots move to the warehouse

Collected lots travel to the warehouse or processing unit and remain traceable to the collection point they came from.

Plain-English glossary

Agri software terms, explained simply

FPO (farmer producer organisation)
A registered group of farmers that buys inputs and sells produce together. Its software has to show each member’s shares, purchases and produce contributions clearly enough to earn their trust.
Vernacular app
An app designed from the start in the user’s own language, using pictures and voice rather than dense text. It makes software usable for farmers who do not read English comfortably.
Offline capture
Recording data on the phone with no network and syncing it later. In fields and villages with weak signal, it is what keeps procurement moving.
Payout API
A connection to a bank or payment provider that sends money to many bank accounts or UPI IDs in one go. It replaces cash and cheque payments to farmers with traceable transfers.
Agmarknet
The government portal that publishes daily mandi arrivals and prices. Showing its figures beside your buying rate helps farmers trust the price you offer.

Collection-point app. Field staff record weight, moisture and grade offline, and the farmer leaves with a receipt instead of a promise.
  • Agriculture software farmer app my sales and payments on a phone, with 3 entries
Farmer app. Farmers check what they sold, what they were paid and any input credit in their own language, with large icons and voice help.
  • Agriculture software head office dashboard in a web browser, with key figures and a chart
Head office dashboard. Head office sees procurement, payouts and dealer stock across the region as data syncs, instead of waiting for evening phone calls.

Cost drivers

Cost factors for agriculture software

  1. Languages supported

Each language needs translation, native-speaker review and testing.

  2. Offline workflows

Offline capture with later sync and conflict handling adds effort.

  3. Payment and credit flows

Farmer payouts, input credit or lender integrations add compliance work.

Estimates are written from your scope, with the effort and assumptions behind each line item.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do you design apps for farmers who aren't comfortable reading English?

We start from your users' language and habits, not a translated English app. Screens use the regional language, large icons and photos of crops and products, and key actions work through voice notes or a call-back request. We test early prototypes with farmers in the field, because office assumptions often fail there. WhatsApp-based flows help too, since many users already know WhatsApp.

Can procurement staff pay farmers directly from the app?

The app records weight, grade and agreed rate, then creates a payout to the farmer's verified bank account or UPI ID through your bank's or payment provider's payout API. An authorised person approves each batch before release, and farmers get an SMS or WhatsApp receipt. Bank details are verified before the first payment to reduce failed or misdirected transfers.

Can the app give crop advice?

It can deliver advice your agronomists prepare, such as crop calendars, pest alerts and fertiliser schedules by crop and region, in the farmer's language. AI can answer common questions from that approved content and suggest likely pest or disease issues from photos, but uncertain cases should go to a human agronomist. We don't automate chemical dosage advice without expert review.
