The sample journey is the product

A diagnostic business sells accuracy and turnaround. Each test starts with a booking, moves through collection at home, a centre or a partner clinic, travels to the lab, runs on an analyser and ends as a verified report. A break anywhere in that chain, whether a mislabelled tube, a delayed pickup or a lost report, damages trust.

We build diagnostics software that tracks the sample journey end to end: booking and phlebotomist routing, barcode labels, lab workflows connected to analysers, pathologist verification and reports patients and doctors can access securely.

Challenges

Diagnostic operations under pressure

  1. Home collection logistics

Phlebotomist slots, routes and cold transport are planned by hand.

  2. Sample identification

Handwritten labels cause mix-ups and repeat collections.

  3. Report turnaround

Patients chase reports by phone when status is not visible.

  4. Partner network

Collection centres and referring doctors need their own views and settlements.

Features for labs and diagnostic centres

  • Home collection booking and routing

Slot booking by pincode, phlebotomist assignment and route planning.

  • Barcode sample tracking

Labels printed at collection and scanned at every handover and at the analyser.

  • Analyser interfacing

Results imported through ASTM or HL7 interfaces to reduce manual entry.

  • Verified digital reports

Pathologist sign-off, QR-verifiable PDFs and app or WhatsApp delivery.

  • B2B partner portal

Collection centres and clinics book tests, track samples and view settlements.

How it works

How a sample travels from a home visit to a verified report

A barcode follows the sample through every handover, so its status is always known.

  1. Patient app

Step 1: Test booked by pincode

The patient picks tests and a home collection slot available in their area.

  2. Phlebotomist app

Step 2: Phlebotomist collects and labels

The route is planned, samples are drawn and barcode labels are printed at the doorstep.

  3. Phlebotomist or courier

Step 3: Sample handed over to the lab

Each handover is scanned, with cold-box checks where the test requires them.

  4. Lab staff

Step 4: Analyser runs the test

Results flow in through the analyser interface instead of being typed in by hand.

  5. Pathologist

    Step 5: Pathologist verifies

Results are reviewed, flagged values checked, and the report signed off before release.

  6. Patient and doctor

    Step 6: Report delivered

A QR-verifiable PDF reaches the app or WhatsApp, and the referring doctor receives a copy with the patient's consent.

Plain-English glossary

Lab and diagnostics terms, in plain English

LIS (laboratory information system)
The software that runs the lab's test orders, sample processing and results. New booking and home collection apps usually connect to it rather than replace it.
Phlebotomist
The trained professional who draws blood samples at a centre or at the patient's home. Their app handles the route, what each visit needs and sample labelling.
ASTM and HL7 interfaces
Standard formats analysers use to send results to software. Connecting through them means results arrive without manual typing, which removes a common source of reporting errors.
TAT (turnaround time)
The time from sample collection or receipt to a released report. Tracking it per test shows where samples wait and what you can safely promise patients.

Apps for patients, phlebotomists and the lab

  • Diagnostic lab software patient app order tracking on a phone, with live status steps
Patient app. Patients see where their sample is and when the report is due, which removes most 'is my report ready' calls to your centre.
  • Diagnostic lab software phlebotomist app morning route on a phone, with 4 entries
Phlebotomist app. Phlebotomists follow a planned route, see fasting and tube requirements for each visit and print barcode labels at the doorstep.
  • Diagnostic software lab dashboard samples in progress table in a web browser, with 4 rows and status labels
Lab dashboard. Lab staff and pathologists see each sample's stage and turnaround time, with flagged values surfaced for review before a report is signed.

Cost drivers

Cost factors for diagnostics software

  1. Analyser integration

Each analyser model and interface type needs configuration and testing.

  2. Collection network size

More phlebotomists and centres need routing, apps and settlements.

  3. Existing LIS

Integrating a current LIS costs less than replacing it, provided it exposes data.

Estimates are written from your scope, with the effort and assumptions behind each line item.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you integrate with our existing lab information system?

Often, yes. Many LIS products can export results, accept orders or expose an API or database views, and we build the booking, home collection and patient-facing layers on top. If your LIS is closed, file-based exchange can work for some flows. We assess integration options first, because replacing an LIS affects lab staff far more than adding new apps around it.

How do patients receive and verify their reports?

Once a pathologist signs off, the report is generated as a PDF with a QR code linking to a secure verification page, and delivered through the patient app, email or a WhatsApp message with a secure link. The referring doctor can receive a copy with the patient's consent. Reports can also be shared to ABHA-linked records once ABDM integration is in place.

Can AI read prescriptions to create test bookings?

AI document processing can extract test names from a photographed prescription and suggest matching tests from your catalogue, which speeds up booking for support staff. Handwriting and abbreviations vary widely, so extracted items are always reviewed by a trained staff member before the booking is confirmed. We log corrections so accuracy can be measured and improved over time.
